About the Forum: Matt Fontana was an electrical engineer who was in London in 2012 when a date stiffed him in favour of seeing the pop superstar Usher. In a foreign country, Matt had his eureka moment! When back in Perth Matt quit his job at Forge Group and set about developing what would become Triplifier.
Launched early this year, Triplifier tells a traveller the best events happening at their destination – events that have cultural flair, are seasonal or unique to the destination. It was officially recognised as the only WA app to be short-listed for the OzApp awards, which was held last week Monday 17 February 2014.
Speaking from UWA where his team – including chief technology officer John Daniels and user-experience consultant Damien Hatton – had a meeting with venture capitalists, Matt explains that though the business was still in its infancy, the next step was to try the Australia- focused app globally. But like Triplifier’s big brothers in the tech space, the big issue now was finding a viable revenue stream for a great idea. Their primary way to make money was through ticket sale commissions, so the sales generated was to develop 10 per cent of the ticket price.
